on becoming someone you once imagined

The future rarely arrives with a clear dividing line. Sometimes it quietly becomes your normal life.

There are moments in life that you spend years imagining.

Finishing university.

Getting the degree.

Travelling somewhere far away.

Building a life that somehow feels bigger than the one you knew growing up.

When you are younger, these things seem almost unreal. Like milestones that belong to a future version of you who will be more confident, more certain, more put together.

And then one day, you become her.

Or at least, you become some version of her.

The strange part is that it does not feel as dramatic as I thought it would.

There is no moment where everything suddenly clicks into place. No clear line between who you were before and who you are now.

You can graduate and still feel unsure about what comes next.

You can achieve something you worked for for years and still wonder whether you are doing enough.

You can travel somewhere you once only saw in pictures and, for a few seconds, forget how impossible it once seemed.

I think that is what surprised me most about growing up.

You do not become a completely different person. You just keep becoming more of yourself.

Maybe that is why certain moments feel strange in hindsight. You look back at an older version of yourself and realize that she would probably be proud of the life you are living now.

Even if you are still figuring it out.

Even if it does not feel finished.

Even if you still have no idea what the next chapter is supposed to look like.

There is something comforting in that.

Maybe becoming the person you once imagined is not about finally having everything together.

Maybe it is just about noticing that some of the things you once hoped for have quietly become part of your normal life.

And maybe that is enough to stop for a second and appreciate how far you have already come.
