For years, graduating was this thing somewhere in the distance.
A finish line.
Something I kept working towards without really thinking about what it would actually feel like once I got there.
There were exams to pass, projects to finish, deadlines to meet, and eventually a thesis that seemed to take up almost every free thought I had.
So naturally, I thought finishing would feel like success.
Like pride.
Like one of those moments where you finally stop and think, I did it.
But when it actually happened, that was not the strongest feeling.
Relief was.
Relief that it was finally over.
Relief that there was no next exam waiting.
No deadline sitting somewhere in the back of my mind.
No thesis chapter I should be working on.
No constant feeling that there was still something unfinished.
And that surprised me.
Because after working towards something for years, you expect the ending to feel bigger.
You expect to suddenly understand what all of it meant.
Instead, I mostly felt tired.
Happy, of course.
Proud, somewhere underneath all of it.
But mostly relieved.
I think success is strange like that.
Sometimes you do not really feel the achievement while it is happening because you have spent so long trying to survive the process of getting there.
By the time you reach the finish line, you are not thinking about how far you have come. You are just glad you can finally stop running.
And then, after the relief settles, there is quiet.
For the first time in years, there is nothing you are supposed to be preparing for.
No semester waiting.
No obvious next step.
And maybe that is when the achievement starts to feel real.
Not in one huge emotional moment.
But slowly.
When someone calls you by your new title.
When you realize you no longer have to say “I’m still studying.”
When you look back at the things that once felt impossible and realize they are already behind you.
Maybe success does not always arrive as excitement.
Sometimes it arrives as silence.
As sleep.
As finally closing your laptop without feeling guilty.
As waking up and knowing there is nothing left to submit.
And maybe that counts too.
