When Silence Speaks Louder

for the endings that never offered an explanation.

I thought we were writing the same story, you and I, my pen tracing words of golden days while yours had already turned to goodbye.

I spoke your name like morning prayer, painted our friendship in brilliant hues, told the world how lucky I was to have someone so true.

But somewhere in the summer heat, between the laughter I still remember, you found reasons in my gestures— reasons you would never whisper.

“A few things seemed strange,” you said, months after the strangeness passed, months of me wondering why your warmth had turned to glass.

I was speaking to a shadow, sharing stories with silence, while you were already walking away from whatever I had broken.

How do you mourn what you can’t name? How do you fix what stays hidden? You left me with half a conversation and a heart that feels forbidden.

“We can talk about it sometime,” you offered like a distant maybe, but your voice already sounded like someone leaving.

I would have changed anything— everything— if only you had told me what “strange” meant to you.

Instead, I’m left holding fragments of a friendship I thought was whole, wondering if I ever knew you at all.

The cruelest part isn’t the ending— it’s the not knowing why, it’s the months of pretending while you were saying goodbye.

I loved you in present tense while you loved me in past, and now I’m here, still wondering what made you leave so fast.

Some doors close with a slam, others with a whisper. But the quietest endings— they hurt the longest.
